I have described the main points and advice on installing Formica countertops. So let's begin. The installation itself is not so hard. You will obviously need the new Formica countertops you are installing, some screws, a screwdriver and a scribe.
If you are installing L or U shaped Formica countertops you might need some additional pair of hands to help you out. The first thing you will have to do is to get rid of your old countertop and put the new Formica countertop in the the same place, to see if it fits or if it needs some more work.
If the countertop is straight you can try this out yourself, for other shapes your friends or family will have to help you test if it fits. Check if the walls behind the countertop are straight and the backsplash fits normally. If they are not, use the scribe and fix the backsplash area to fit. Continue with the scribing and try to put it in place, until it is ready.
When it fits well, use the screws to fixate it in place. Make sure you get the right size of the screws. They must be as long as possible, to screw into the top part of the cabinets and through the Formica countertop. You must be careful they don't go all the way through, because it will look ugly.
After you have fitted the Formica countertop just continue to reinstall your sink and stovetop. If you plan to get a new sink or stovetop this is the best time to do it. After that you have completed Formica countertop installation and are ready to start using your brand new Formica countertop!
